Big Tower Tiny Square 2 is a precision platformer about a very small square trying to climb a very big tower. It follows the first game: Big Square has rebuilt his tower from the ruins of the old one and stolen another pineapple, so the tiny square heads up again to get it back. There is no fighting and no inventory. The whole game is jumping, timing and remembering where the spikes are.

Each room is a single screen, and every screen has its own checkpoint. A fall or a spike costs you a few seconds, not a whole level. That makes it a good fit for a speedrun site. You fail fast, restart at once, and shave a little off the route each time. A clock also runs across the whole climb, so a clean run and a sloppy one show up on the same timer.

How to play

Move with the arrow keys or A and D. Jump with the Up arrow, W or Space. The one trick to learn early is the wall: press into a wall while airborne and the square slides down it slowly, and a jump from that slide launches you off in a wall-jump. Most rooms are built around chaining these, alternating walls to climb a shaft or sliding down a wall to line up a jump.

A room usually asks one question. Go too early and you land on a spike. Go too late and you miss the ledge. Read the room for a moment, work out the first jump, then move to the next.

Tips

• Tap the jump key rather than holding it. Short, controlled hops are safer around spikes than full-height jumps.
• Use the wall slide to slow down. Sliding gives you time to judge a drop before you commit to it.
• When a room keeps killing you at the same spot, stop and look for where the checkpoint puts you. Repeating one short section calmly beats rushing it.
• If you are chasing a time, play a room once to learn its shape, then go back over it faster.
