Speed King is a small top-down dash game with a pixel look. You move through a castle garden, collect the pickups scattered along the way, avoid the guards patrolling it and try to reach the gate before the clock runs out. A round is short, and the whole game is about trimming seconds off a route you already know.

It suits a visitor to Pixel Speedrun for the same reason as the headline game: the target is your own best time. Nothing in Speed King asks for long sessions or a story. You try a path, see where you lost time, and go again straight away.

How to play

• Keep clear of the guards. Touching one costs you the run or a lot of time, so treat their patrol routes as walls.
• Reach the gate before the clock hits zero.

• Spend the first run looking, not racing. Note where the guards turn and where the pickups sit.

• Play with your hands on the keys the whole time so you do not lose a second hunting for a direction.
