Hearts brings classic four-player trick-taking card play straight to your browser. While Pixel Speedrun is known for high-velocity platforming and split-second twitch reflexes, Hearts offers an engaging strategic change of pace. You face three computer opponents in a battle of card counting, suit management, and disciplined risk avoidance.
Unlike most card games where winning tricks is the goal, Hearts is an evasion game. Every heart card you capture in a trick adds one penalty point to your score, and the notorious Queen of Spades dumps thirteen penalty points onto whoever takes her trick. Your objective across multiple rounds is simple: keep your cumulative score as low as possible until someone crosses the hundred-point threshold.
How to play
Each round begins with a 52-card deal where thirteen cards are distributed to each of the four seats. Before the first trick, you select three cards to pass to an opponent according to the round rotation. Getting rid of dangerous high cards or eliminating an entire suit during this passing step sets the foundation for your hand.
The player holding the Two of Clubs leads the opening trick. Play proceeds clockwise around the table:
- Follow suit: You must play a card of the led suit if you have one.
- Sloughing cards: If you are void in the led suit, you can throw away any card from another suit, allowing you to discard high cards or saddle opponents with penalty points.
- First trick safety: No penalty cards (hearts or the Queen of Spades) can be played on the very first trick.
- Breaking hearts: Hearts cannot be led to open a trick until a heart has been discarded on an earlier trick.
- Winning tricks: The highest card of the led suit captures the trick and leads the next hand.
A daring alternative strategy is shooting the moon. If you manage to capture all thirteen hearts plus the Queen of Spades in a single round, you receive zero penalty points while every opponent takes twenty-six points.
Tips for lower scores
Consistently winning at Hearts requires careful hand evaluation and tracking what other players discard:
- Void a suit early: Passing away all cards of a single suit creates an immediate dump lane where you can discard unwanted high cards when opponents lead that suit.
- Protect high spades: Holding the Ace or King of Spades is dangerous without low spades to guard them. If you cannot pass them off, play them only after the Queen of Spades has already surfaced.
- Block moon attempts: If a player wins several consecutive tricks loaded with hearts, do not assume they are making mistakes. Step in and win a trick with a high card to ruin their sweep.

Shooting the moon happens when one player successfully captures all thirteen hearts and the Queen of Spades in a single round. That player gets zero points while all opponents receive 26 points.
How do controls work in this browser version of Hearts?
You can play using a mouse or touchscreen. Click or tap the three cards you want to pass, and click or tap cards in your hand to play them onto the table.
